Woodland Friends
This series features wild animals that I remember from childhood stories and folklore, and even some I see in my neighbourhood. Much like my first series, Whisper of the Wing, I integrate the animal drawing along with foliage and flowers. The flora this time are much brighter in colour and vibrant, focusing on emerald greens, deep reds and soft pinks. The images are whimsical and playful, and I hope they make you as happy as they make me!
I started with drawing in ink (sometimes on paper, sometimes on tracing paper), scanning in the images and then vectorizing them in Adobe Illustrator. In that program I am able to repeat, scale, adjust the colours, and layer all the different elements. My drawing style I'm exploring is reminiscent of stamps or block printing. It also reminds me of scrapbooking and doodling/grunge art.
